What is the meaning of "Akima" ?

The word stands for 'winner' in the language of the Eskimos. Akima is also the name of a Japanese computer pioneer. He has invented computer algorithms which are capable of precisely connecting sparse data to realistic curves – without exaggeration or understatement. Akima curves are broadly used, e.g. in stock market displays, arts or landscaping.
